An Introduction to Anusara-Inspired Yoga
with Isvari Verre, RYT
Anusara means to be in the flow, flowing with Grace, in harmony with nature. When we practice Anusara yoga, we align with what is intrinsically good. The Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness is that everything is a manifestation of Supreme Consciousness. The highest intention of practicing Anusara Yoga is aligning with the Divine energy within us which is our essential nature. Our practice becomes a celebration of the heart and ultimately a celebration of life while inspiring light-heartedness, playfulness, and joyful creativity within the yoga practice. We do this through a concise set of alignment principles called the “Universal Principles of Alignment TM which is applied to each asana. They are simple and complete in that they encompass all 5 elements of nature.
Open to Grace sets your intention to attune to the bigger energy of the Universe, to listen, to soften and connect into the goodness of the Universe. This is the element of space from which everything else manifests.
Muscular Energy integrates the body from the periphery to the core. When we hug in, we connect to our strength and stability and move into our stillness. Like the element of the earth, we become steadfast.
Inner Spiral adds the fluidity of water and optimizes the alignment of the pelvis and lower back by moving the inner thighs back and apart.
Outer Spiral, like fire empowers the pose from deep in the core by scooping the tailbone and balances the action of the widening of the thighs while deeply strengthening the pose.
Organic Energy extends from the strength of the pose out radiantly, like the rays of the sun and is the creative extension and full expression of the asana. It is the element of air.
When we align the heart, mind and body using these principles, we get glimpses of our divine nature and these openings allow us the freedom of choice to align with the goodness of nature and expand our own consciousness.
